With eleven titles in our core programme this year, we are proud to present our most ambitious Film Season yet.

The programme boasts three UK premieres including Beneath the Blindfold, a ground-breaking documentary on overcoming the effects of torture, screened in partnership with Document Film Festival; Alive Inside, a heart-warming testament to the power of music in reaching people with Alzheimer’s, screened in partnership with Luminate; and Ana Ana, a cinematic poem following four young Egyptian women struggling to make sense of their post-Arab Spring world through the arts and filmmaking.

Also included is a special screening of Glasgow Girls, a drama based on the true-life story of a group of school girls who changed the legal system while rescuing a friend caught in an immigration nightmare, followed by a discussion with original Glasgow Girl Amal Azzudin.

Music also provides the backdrop for Gabrielle, a romantic drama in which two adults with learning difficulties fall in love after meeting in a choir, and The Mars Project which documents how hip hop artist Khari ‘Conspiracy’ Stewart uses his music as a creative outlet for Schizophrenia. Resilience found through creativity is also at the heart of Regeneration, a drama based on shell-shocked Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon seeking solace and understanding through poetry.

Family as a source of strength is central to The Crash Reel and Everybody’s Child and Stand Clear of the Closing Doors. In The Crash Reel, the devastation of a promising sports career halted by a brain injury is eased through the support of parents and siblings while Stand Clear of the Closing Doors is as much about a mother’s love as the unplanned adventures of a child with autism lost in New York City. In Everybody’s Child one of Scotland’s most exciting new film makers gives a brave, brutally honest account of his life of crime, violence and drugs after spending his childhood being moved around foster homes.

This year’s programme will challenge and provoke thought with the chance to engage in post-show discussions and Q&As. We hope to see you there. Find out all about the film season in the leaflet below:
