A few hours before the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival double-bill in Glasgow’s Tramway, our reporter Elaine Kordys met James Leadbitter, aka the vacuum cleaner.
They talked about his piece Mental, a piece described as “one of the most powerful portraits of creativity and depression I’ve ever seen… a heart-rending journey” by a reviewer from RealTime Arts.
The result of this encounter is a short video interview. It’s a wonderful opportunity to look back on the vacuum’s cleaner fantastic performance, and find out more about James’ work.
About the Artist
James Leadbitter, aka the vacuum cleaner, is a UK-based artist and activist who makes work drawing on his own experience of mental health disability. He went on to contribute to our Performing Anxiety resource with a provocation and in-depth interview.
