There is a double celebration taking place this Saturday, with World Mental Health Day and the launch of the 2015 Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival.

Events are happening across Scotland – including theatre, film, dance, music and creative workshops – all aiming to promote the arts and challenge preconceived ideas about mental health.

Here are our top ten ways you can get involved on World Mental Health Day, which this year has Dignity as its theme:

Opening Day with Moving Minds

Taking over Kelvingrove for World Mental Health Day, this fun family event celebrates diversity and wellbeing in our communities. Try out stop motion animation with award winning filmmaker Claire Lamond, experience traditional music and performance from around the world, watch our vibrant eastern and western fashion show and get involved in plenty more throughout the day.

Led by musician and theatre composer Michael John McCarthy, Turntable is a series of events that explore how music can enrich our lives. In Her Shadows
7.30-8.20pm, The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen

Directed by Cora Bissett, creator of Glasgow Girls and Roadkill, In Her Shadows is a striking new piece of aerial and physical theatre, depicting a young woman’s experiences with depression. Featuring stunning projections and a haunting score, it grew organically from performer Debbie Robbins’ own battle with mental ill-health and has dates in Greenock, Glasgow and Dundee later in the Festival.

Headspace Launch Event
4-10pm, Platform, Glasgow

To launch this year’s Headspace, Platform hosts an evening of thought provoking film, comedy and music, featuring a screening of Here One Day, the Jury Prize winner from last year’s SMHAFF International Film Competition, stand-up from Universal Comedy, who show audiences the lighter side of mental ill-health, and a gig from Burkina Faso’s Baba Commandant, who redefine the boundaries between modern and traditional music.

The Last Yankee
2.30-4pm and 7.30-9pm, Perth Studio Theatre, Perth

To celebrate the centenary of Arthur Miller’s birth, Rapture Theatre are touring Scotland with one of the legendary writer’s last great plays.
