As part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival’s commitment to fostering new work that explores mental health, we are delighted to offer ten artists from any performance discipline* an opportunity to present scratch ideas as part of our October 2017 festival programme.
We are looking to curate a programme of original, interesting and high-quality ideas that explore mental health themes. Artists will present work at one of two evenings:
Saturday 14th October | Flourish House, Glasgow
Wednesday 18th October | Roxy Assembly, Edinburgh
5 Ways To Begin… is an excellent place to explore new ideas and receive feedback from audiences. Our Associate Artist Emma Jayne Park will support artists through a quick fire critical response process following their performance in order to gain the most from the audience insights. This opportunity is not available for finished pieces but will support performance or film in development that would benefit from audience feedback.
Selected artists will receive:
- Basic technical support (please note that Flourish House does not offer specialist lighting requirements but can showcase film)
- Marketing as part of SMHAFF
- A stipend of £100 per performance
- Photographic documentation of the performance
*We are presently unable to support aerial performance.
To apply please send a short (no more than one A4 page) proposal to ejp@culturedmongreldance.com detailing what you would like to share, and which disciplines you work with, demonstrating your experience as a maker and explaining why the opportunity would benefit you at this time. The deadline is Friday 1 September. All applicants will receive a decision by Monday 11 September at the latest.
5 Ways to Begin… is supported by open funding from Creative Scotland.
