a soft place to land is an exhibition of textile sculptures, wall quilts and screen-printed hangings inspired by natural elements. Stitched by Bel Pye, this exhibition holds a sensory space within texture, play and rest.
“I feel that textiles can be comforting, and right now a lot of people need comfort. In the past I might have made work that was confrontational (like This Is How I Feel) but now I am drawn to making spaces of sanctuary for myself, with the hope that others may find them as soothing as I do.” – Pye
As Pye gets the most pleasure out of textiles when feeling them in their hands and under their fingers, a soft place to land was, from the very beginning, planned to make all the work touchable. Bel wanted the work to be huggable, pick-up-able and possibly allow people to feel more in their bodies whilst engaging with it.
