Step into the darkroom and discover the art of camera-less photography. Using light, objects and photo-sensitive paper, create unique photograms inspired by the theme of Reflections.
Suitable for all ages and experience levels, this free 60-minute workshop is an ideal activity for families during the October holidays, as well as anyone interested in photography, visual arts, or trying something completely different. No previous experience is required, and all materials will be provided.
The workshops are facilitated by Summerlee Photomedia and led by experienced photography tutor Wilma Smith, who will guide participants through each stage of the process in a supportive and welcoming environment. Places can be booked for up to four people per session, making it easy for families and friends to take part together.
As well as introducing participants to the fundamentals of black and white darkroom image making, the workshops encourage creativity, curiosity and self-expression. The slow, tactile nature of the process offers a refreshing alternative to digital and smartphone photography, inviting participants to disconnect from screens and enjoy a more mindful approach to image making.
Whether you are discovering photography for the first time or revisiting traditional techniques, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to create beautiful, experimental photographic artworks by hand and gain insight into one of photography’s earliest and most fascinating processes.
