Whether you want to perform or just listen, this is the safe space that will give you the opportunity to be yourself with maximum encouragement from everyone. With an all-inclusive philosophy, Mad Jam supports poetry and all forms of musical expression.

Ostensibly, our Open Mic is all about encouraging people to come up and perform, but it is much more than that: it is noticeable that the power differential between performer and audience is virtually non-existent - everybody contributes on an equal basis, regardless of the task in hand. There is a stage on which to perform, of course, but our artists immediately revert to being members of the audience, once they leave the stage. The overwhelming achievement of the Mad Jammers is the creation, or re-establishment in some cases, of a sense of community. People who have been isolated by society and its often inhuman systems have suddenly rediscovered their voice, from both a literal and metaphorical point of view.
