Mindful Making with Clay

Workshop Crafts

Leith Community Pottery host this workshop to give you the opportunity to build a clay vessel to take home and keep.

Guided by two qualified professionals, you will use handbuilding techniques to create your pieces. They will be fired, glazed, and returned to participants in the weeks following the workshops.

The workshops will offer an antidote to isolation, exclusion and the opportunity to alleviate stress and anxiety in relaxing, sociable, creative and non-judgemental environment. They are open to self-referral or referral by mental health professionals.

The aim of the workshops is to allow participants to:

  • Experience the creative process through making a clay vessel
  • Engage with others in a social environment, following an extended period of increased isolation and restricted human interaction
  • Regain some sense of ‘normality’ in the context of some kind of return to life pre-pandemic
  • Have the opportunity to either refer to their own sense of new normality or reflect on their experience of the extended period of restrictions through creative expression

This event will take place in accordance with Covid-19 restrictions. There will be a maximum of 8 people per workshop, with PPE and physical distancing in place. Should it be necessary, this can be reduced to 4 people per session with increased distancing. Weather permitting, there is also the possibility of working outdoors.
