DAY OF FAILURE
A day of discussions, presentations and workshops that consider, question and reflect upon failure.
Culminating in a work in progress sharing of Epic Fail, the latest performance from SMHAF Associate Artist Emma Jayne Park. Ideal for anyone who has ever failed or may fail in the future!
Joining us will be:
Jo Clifford is a playwright, poet, performer and teacher who is also a proud father and grandmother.
She is the author of about 90 plays, many of which have been performed all over the world. Her play “The Gospel According to Jesus Queen of Heaven” toured Brazil continuously for three years, before becoming too dangerous perform under the current regime. Her five recent radio plays, “Five Days Which Changed Everything” have recently been broadcaston BBC Radio 4; and her short film “These Are My Hands”, which she wrote and which she performs, is currently being shown illegally in Turkey (to evade the LGBT crackdown) aftershowings all over the world.
Adam is a performer, a trans activist, and an inspirational speaker. He made his professional debut as an actor in a theatre production called ADAM as part of the Fringe 2017. The play won the Fringe First award, the Scottish Arts Club award, and was shortlisted for Amnesty's international award for free speech. Adam won a Herald Angel award for his role in the play as well as being nominated for the London Offies Award 2018.
Jenna is an award winning Scottish theatre maker from Inverness. Her works include Faslane; winner of a Scotsman Fringe First and Summerhall Lustrum Award 2016 and Scotsman Fringe First award winning Flâneurs (Summerhall). In the last year she has been the recipient of 27 rejection emails: from high profile showcases to job opportunities and commissions. She continually fails to secure commissions with some of Scotland's leading theatres and can't find the motivation to set up another round of meetings only to be told 'not right now', 'we don't have the money' or 'we don't know how to work with you'. Yet, despite this, she continues to make work!!

You are invited to attend this session as yourself, not as a representative of a company or organisation, and can contribute as much as feels approproate throughout the day. There will be no pressure to talk or share. Sessions are informal and there will be a quiet area available for anyone experiencing anxiety. The space is fully accessible, if you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to get in touch. Lunch will be provided for attendees.
