Come and discover this collaborative visual arts exhibition developed through LAMH’s weekly community art workshops in Hamilton.

Inspired by the theme of Reflections, participants explored identity, belonging, place and lived experience through a series of artist-led workshops. Drawing inspiration from artists including Grayson Perry, Ai Weiwei and Yayoi Kusama, participants experimented with collage, painting, photography, printmaking and decorative techniques before creating their own unique decoupage vase.

Each vase reflects personal stories, memories, aspirations and connections to people and place. Individually, they celebrate the voices and creativity of their makers. Together, they form a powerful collective installation exploring how our experiences shape both personal identity and community.

The completed works will be displayed within a mirrored exhibition, encouraging visitors to reflect not only on the artworks themselves but also on their own relationships with identity, wellbeing, belonging and the communities around them. The mirrors become part of the artwork, inviting every visitor to see themselves within the exhibition’s central themes.

Alongside the finished installation, visitors will discover sketchbooks, experimental pieces, photography and developmental work created throughout the project. These accompanying works reveal the creative journey behind the exhibition and demonstrate how accessible community arts can foster confidence, self-expression, resilience and meaningful social connection.

Created through LAMH’s inclusive arts programme, The Hamilton Vases celebrates the transformative power of creativity while highlighting the important role that community participation, artistic expression and shared experiences can play in supporting positive mental health and wellbeing.
