In recent years we have seen a shift towards trauma-informed care, and it is currently at the forefront of political agendas. However, despite these efforts, child sexual abuse remains an invisible and isolating experience for survivors. This powerful exhibition brings together art from a range of individuals who have disclosed child sexual abuse, displaying personal images from survivors, ranging from pre-school through to retirement age. It also includes a collaboration with Victorious Voices, a photography project aimed at breaking the silence around sexual abuse.
It is hoped that, through sharing survivor images and narratives, we can expose the hidden depth of child sexual abuse, and what victims are doing to be visible in their disclosure journey. We hope their art will confront the painful cost of silencing survivors and motivate viewers to be part of making moral change. Child sexual abuse is destructive, but saying the words “I was sexually abused” is an incredibly powerful act. Let’s break the silence by making survivors of child sexual abuse visible.
The launch event on Friday 11 October is from 5-6.30pm, this is a free event but booking is required.
