Lanark YFCL within Universal Connections will bring together a number of different community groups from all ages and talents to display their artwork and ideas of what Reflections means to them at an open event on Friday 6th November. The event aims to provide an opportunity to talk about emotional well being and mental health, and support reducing stigma, along with Coffee and Cake.
The main event will take place in Lanark Universal Connections on Friday 6th November from 10am to 2pm. All are welcome to see the range of multi-art works created by local community groups, along with refreshments and the opportunity to chat.
Photography, Music, Media, Art/ crafts – Mirror Reflection Art to expand the limits and thoughts of mental health and wellbeing, to reveal something that would otherwise lie out of sight. A truthful version of ourselves? We want to do all these different arts to reduce the stigma attached to poor mental health and how it can affect anyone at any age.
We want to do all these different arts to reduce the stigma attached to poor mental health and how it can affect anyone at any age. The groups provided are good opportunities to reduce social isolation and raise mental health through attendance. We work closely with our partners and colleagues to provide the best and most varied opportunities to join. As we are located within a rural area of South Lanarkshire, opportunities such as these can be limited, therefore needed more, as they are under-represented. Our groups find that art and crafts are very therapeutic and relaxing, a good time for expressing their feelings and emotions. This is an excellent opportunity to do more allowing participants to express themselves further and increase positive wellbeing.
The variety of ideas presented will provide different aspects of what mental health means to the group or individual. Especially how labels or negative words can make you feel invisible in society and affect your confidence, self esteem and mental health. Making people feel excluded and isolated, especially coming from small rural communities. We will culminate at the end of the week with a showcase of all the artwork completed open to all the community to come and see. Providing entertainment on the day ie. What do you See?, Music being played that was created, read aloud their own stories to others, play the podcasts created.
