#23 A Way From Rage
‘Take time to tend / Before the rot sets in / Before the root and stem fall to ruin / And don’t pretend that all is forgiven…’
With support from Creative Scotland, we commissioned three Scottish writers and artists to produce original pieces for the 70 Stories project.
We are delighted to share the third of these commissions, A Way From Rage, a beautiful and powerful new song by Glasgow singer-songwriter Heir of the Cursed.
Take time to tend
Before the rot sets in
Before the root and stem fall to ruin
And don’t pretend that all is forgiven
I know you’re putting the work in
And you’re asking the questions
Does it hold you?
Does it feed you?
In this moment
Is it enough?
You are enough
Does it call you?
Calm and course you?
In this moment
Is it enough?
You are enough
A way from rage
A way from pain
A way from aches
And all remains
Gather your friends
The ones you’ve forgotten
Every one of them
Is a day to court
And take time to tend
Before the rot sets in
Before the root and stem
Fall to ruin
Does it hold you?
Does it feed you?
In this moment
Is it enough?
You are enough
Does it call you?
Calm and course you?
In this moment
Is it enough?
You are enough
A way from rage
A way from pain
A way from aches
And all remains
70 Stories is an online project curated by the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival to mark the 70th anniversary of the Mental Health Foundation. The project connects stories from our Writing Competition, stories from SMHAF participants, and more in a compelling portrait of mental health in 2019.
Keep an eye on mhfestival.com/70stories for new entries in the series. If you are connected in some way to SMHAF or the Mental Health Foundation and would like to contribute a piece of writing to this project, please contact aeaton-lewis@mentalhealth.org.uk.
