Robyn Woolston: Art Safari Highland

For Art Safari Highland, artist Robyn Woolston worked with 58 participants from rural communities in the Highlands to experiment with new materials and learn new skills, culminating in an A-Z of Mental Health.

Robyn Woolston is a visual artist who works across installation, photography, moving image and print, often in non-gallery spaces, across community settings and within archives or sites of listed significance.

Art Safari Highland was an SMHAF Community Commission, funded by the Baring Foundation, in which Robyn worked with 58 participants from rural communities in the Highlands to experiment with new materials and learn new skills.

The culmination of the project was a series of paintings representing an A-Z of Mental Health, which were exhibited at the Highland Folk Museum throughout SMHAF in May 2022, reaching an audience of over 7,600 people. The paintings were displayed alongside personal reflections, anecdotes and advice from the participants. The work was also collected in a printed pamphlet.
