Anne trained as an occupational therapist (OT), supporting patients recovering from mental illness in hospital through meaningful activity.

Using art, crafts, and creative projects, patients were encouraged to express themselves using a variety of mediums.

Anne speaks on her experience as an OT in the early 80s.

Excerpts:

“What I do think though about arts and crafts is that even just the process of working together on a particular project as a group can be incredibly therapeutic.”

“I found poetry was a very helpful way of…especially for older adults, sometimes it’s easier to talk about what’s happening in a poem, or talk about the person in the poem than it is to talk about yourself.”
