Through oral history, audio-visual works and community gathering, the Art of Family Life reflects the creativity, joys and struggles of refugee communities who have settled in Glasgow.
This sensitive exhibition and events programme has been developed with community members over a two-year period across Glasgow, exploring intangible cultural heritage, belonging, listening and wellbeing. Working with the Scottish Oral History Centre, Listen Gallery and local socially engaged artists, this programme of oral history collection and workshops has creatively documented the cultural meanings and values that have been passed through generations (and new), that give people a sense of family and identity.
Installation supported by Soundplay Projects.
Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Listen Gallery
Listen Gallery C.I.C is an artist-run, non-profit sound arts gallery and communal listening space based in Glasgow. They create spaces for listening through creative projects, such as workshops, performances, exhibitions, screenings, and other sound-focused projects. Their aim is to make sound art accessible to everyone and to use listening as a way to create, collaborate, reflect, and grow together.
The Scottish Oral History Centre
The Scottish Oral History Centre (SOHC) was established at the University of Strathclyde in 1995. Since then, it has been involved in a wide range of teaching, research and outreach activities designed primarily to encourage the use of ‘best practice’ oral history methodology in Scotland.
